Argo In Class Write

For my project I watched the film Argo. This film is about The Iranian Hostage Crisis of 1979. This movie relates a lot to the movie 12 years a slave because just like that movie it is based off a book written by the main character. This film was very historically accurate but had some places that were fictionalized for drama.
One way that Argo was very historically accurate is the start of this film when the embassy was taken over. The start of the film showed a mass of Iranians outside of the compound just before taking it over. Then the film shows the people beginning to climb the fence of the compound to get in. During this piece of the film it shows the people in the streets burning a US flag. These pieces of the film were proven to be very historically accurate in a few ways in my research. The first place these scenes were proved to be so accurate was at the end of the film, there was a slide show that showed pictures of these scenes from the movie and then next to the image would be a real photograph that was taken during the crisis that looked identical to that of the film. I also found the images of these scenes on CNN. com which is a very credible source. There is also a scene in the film where it shows a few of the hostages being lead to the basement of the embassy where they are lined up to be executed. Then the Iranians raise there guns and fire but the guns weren't loaded, they just did it to scared the hostages and get a good laugh out if it. I found that this piece of the film was also true when I read about it at CNN.com. Although many of the parts of the movie are true there are some that weren't.
Towards the end of the film the 6 people that escaped and made it to the Canadian Embassy are at the airport with Tony Mendez. The film shows that they had some trouble getting through security. They were taken to a back room where they were examined. The people at the airport call Studio 6 Productions which is their fake company to see if they are real. This is a big dramatic piece of the film. The studio doesn't answer until the last ring. They are let go and free to board the plane. Then as the plane is taking off the people find out who they really are and they rush out on the tarmac to try and stop the take off but it is too late. Although this part of the film was very interesting it wasn't true. I found out in my research that once the 7 people made it to the airport it was a clean process for the escape, they didn't have any problems.
This film in general was a very historically accurate movie because just like 12 years a slave it was based off a book written by the main character of the movie. Both of the films were mostly true but they both had some false and/or dramatized stories that would add a little bit of excitement and drama to the movie to help make it more interesting. As a whole the movie Argo was a very good historically accurate representation of the events that took place in 1979.

Invitation to dinner

Ben is on the guest list because it is easy to say without Ben this movie wouldn’t have been possible. Ben was the Director, Co producer, and the star of the film. In the film he plays Tony Mendez the CIA opperative who planned the argo mission and went to Tehran to save the people who were lucky enough to escape the US Embassy and make it to the Canadian Embassy.

George clooney is on the guest list because George was the Co producer of the film along with Ben Affleck. George was just as important to the creation of this film. Without the help he gave Ben this movie wouldn’t have been possible.

Jimmy would be great for this dinner because Jimmy was the president during the crisis. He is the one who takes most of the blame for the cause of the crisis. He is the one who had the final say in allowing the Shah to enter to US for treatment which ultimatly lead to the hostage crisis.

Ronald would be great for this dinner because the hostages were released on the day of his innauguration. Although it is not really correct he is credited by most people in being the reason why the hostages were released.

Bob is a great guest  for this dinner because Bob was a reporter who was in Tehran during the crisis. He provided live footage during the time of the crisis. Many of the details Bob reported were used in the creation of the film.

Terry would be great to have at the dinner because Terry was the embassy press atache in Tehran as well as one of the hostages. Terry is the man in the famous picture of the crisis that is blind folded in front of the embassy while the iranians yelled at him.

Fereshta would be great for this dinner because she has a great story that was not shown in the film. She is an Iranian who was working in the embassy during the attack. She witnessed the whole attack but was let go because she is Iranian.

Benjamin would be great for this dinner because  he was a specialist doctor that was a big reason why  the shah came to the US. He went and saw the shah when he was in Mexico and decided that he really needed to come to the US for treatment. This diagnosis is a big reason why the Shah ended up in America.

Dinner Menu

I chose to serve these dishes at the dinner because they are very popular in Iran. I chose a few of the most popular appetizers Entres and desserts that are served commonly in Iran.
