western news papers

I read two stories from the new north west news paper in deer lodge Montana in 1871. I read a story about a race horse who had been sold many times for under 50 dollars and now the horse can not even be bought for 30,000 because he is doing so well now. The man who owned the horse now bought it for 44 dollars. I also read a story about a man who went insane and killed his wife while she was pregnant and then he killed him self using a revolver. I don't read the news paper much but this news paper seemed to be pretty similar to news papers now when it comes to the layout and the type of stories that are in it.

  • 121,000 people in US waiting for organs
  • 2007 5-10% of transplants done illegally
  • 600 million - 1.2 billion in illegal profit
  • people offer to sell organs when they are poor

  • between 2007-2013 100 cases of trafficking for organs were detected in 20 different countries
  • most victims are actually males
  • data isnt very accurate because these are only reported cases
  • Human trafficking case law data base has 1,200 cases in 90 countries only 12 are for organs
  • human trafficking for removal of organs is only 1% of human trafficking cases
  • organ trafficking and the trafficking of humans for organ removal are often used the same however they are different
  • organ trafficking is just the organ whereas trafficking of humans for the removal of organs is about the trafficking of people
  • .1-.2% of all cases are human trafficking for the removal of organs
Reflection
Human trafficking for the removal of organs is something I had never heard of in my whole life until I saw it in a TV show a few weeks ago. The reason for me never hearing about it is because of the rarity of these cases. They only account for about 2% of all human trafficking cases around the world so they are not the main focus. However I believe this should be looked at more because i believe this is one of the more physically harming to people.

10/11/16
Today in class I learned about many different types of human trafficking. The one that was most interesting to me is Trafficking of humans for the removal of organs. I had learned some information about this topic in the class before but I also learned more today. I learned that the basis of this problem is that the wealthy people in many countries are using their wealth and power to get organs on the black market. which helps fund the industry that is Trafficking of humans for the removal of organs.
