From 1600 to the civil war America grew a lot as a nation. The US went from having one settlement to having territory all across present day America. The biggest challenges the US faced as a nation were Slavery and land disputes which caused major problems such as the Mexico War that lasted from 1829-1848. Also these problems caused arguably the biggest Conflict in US history which was the Civil War. The only thing that kept the US united until the Civil War during these issues was compromise, the only way to solve things peacefully was to come up with a reasonable compromise where both sides could benefit from it. During this time period many events happened that made our country what it is today such as the bill of rights, the constitution, and the declaration of independence.
